It happens every spring and every fall,
the urge to give the house a good top to bottom scrubbing.
In the spring I want to throw open the windows and let the fresh air in.
In the fall I want to fluff up the cozy blankets and light candles that smell of cinnamon.
Just in time for my fall cleaning, SC Johnson sent me a pretty blue box of goodies.
On Saturday, I elicited the help of my sister Erica and we got down to business. Dirty business.
I don't know how I ever kept a clean house with two children and a full time job.
I'm home all day with a three year old, and can't manage to keep up with the laundry,
let alone dust or mop the floors.
I took full advantage of having a helper and as an added bonus,
I was able to get some help with the review.
Win, win I tell you.
My bathrooms are clean and smell wonderful and I had to check my sister's
pockets before she left to make sure she didn't steal my
Pledge Multi Surface Everyday Cleaner.
She sounded like an infomercial as she went about spraying and wiping every surface in my house.
It removed a rust ring on my bathroom counter with ease,
marker stains on my white coffee table,
and made my stainless steel counter top shine.
And it smells great too!
I have used and loved the fabric sweeper for pet hair, even before receiving one for review.
It is easy to use and does what it says.
What more can you ask for?
So, the bottom line, would I actually purchase any of these products now that I've tried them?
Yes.
My favorites were the pet hair sweeper, the multi purpose spray
and the Scrubbing Bubbles toilet cleaning gel.
We have well water and have problems with mineral rings in the toilet.
The toilet cleaning gel keeps those ugly rings away between weekly cleanings
and I like the clean fresh scent.
SC Johnson has a great site, Right @ Home.

I follow you! My one cleaning tip would be to keep up with things on a daily basis and do something, i.e. sweep, bathroom or laundry - every day...(easier said than done with 2 young kids!)

Okay I'm no longer lurking in the shadows, I'm a follower (some how that doesn't much better than being a lurker...). Guess I would some help cleaning my house.

I'm a follower and my best tip would be clean up the mess right away. It's always easier to get whatever it is off the surface before it is set, and cleaning up as you go makes it never get to the point of being too overwhelming. Easier said than done.

I'm a follower (I think!) and my best tip was baking soda paste for the oven. Worked like a charm to remove burnt on food when I didn't have an oven with a cleaning cycle!

I don't know if this counts as a cleaning tip, but my husband got me a roomba vacuum for my birthday last year, and it has revolutionized my vacuuming. With a 3 year old and a new baby, I don't have time to push around a vacuum, but I actually can get the floors clean by setting the roomba free in the room.

My best cleaning tip? Hire someone to help! I work full time and have a family and pet--and a wonderful lady who comes two mornings a month to help keep the house under control. I still vacuum and pick up and do laundry and clean bathrooms, but it's all done twice a month when I get home, and that helps keep me sane.

I already follow you. Don't wait until you can get everything perfect! If you only have time to do a little cleaning, that's better than nothing. :)

I try to clean the bathroom when my youngest is taking a bath. That way, I've got some good company while I'm doing my least favorite chore. My house is seriously in need of a scrubbing! Just went back to work full-time a few months ago for the first time in 8 years.

I am a happy follower of your blog - my tip is to clean a little each day - do not it pile up. I find this works so well as I never end up with a monumental cleaning mess - plus house always looks half way presentable!!

Just followed officially, but read your blog all the time from my blogreader. My best/most recent cleaning tip is for stove burners. I used this tip recently for my gas stove burners. Remove burners from stove top, place in a ziploc bag, add SMALL amount of ammonia (this works on the fumes, so you don't need much). Let sit overnight. The next day, all the burnt on grime will come right off!!! It's a miracle!

My best cleaning tip? Hire someone! I HATE cleaning. But a real tip is that if you have a glass door on the shower, hang a squeegee and squeegee after every single shower.

I subscribe to your blog via Google. I actually have 2 cleaning tips (which, sitting here looking at my house, maybe I need to get up from the computer and follow these tips myself lol!): 1 - focus on a single room for 15 minutes. I set a timer and blitz one room as much as I can. If something needs to go in another room, I set it by the door and take it there when the time is up. Otherwise, I'm a very distracted cleaner and no rooms ever get totally finished because I spend my time bouncing from one to the other. 2 - to clean my stainless steel sink, I make a baking soda paste with just a little bit of water, then scrub it with a sponge (I have to designate it as a "no soap" sponge so it doesn't make my baking soda all sudsy!). I love that the baking soda gets it shiny without risking scratching it. The thing that makes it shine the most, though, is wiping the whole thing down to dry it out when I'm finished! If I want it to look extra special and I'm not going to be using it for a bit (ie, company is on their way and I'm done cooking) I pour just a little olive oil on a folded paper towel and rub it in the sink. Gives it a nice shine!

My best cleaning tip came from you :). the stainless steel polish over the glass cook top, cleans polishes and keep the top cleaner with use. Also this may sound strange but I buy the cheapest shampoo and keep in the shower for soaping up the walls and glass doors of the shower including metal fixtures after about every three showers. You will never have soap scum or a dirty shower stall/bathtub.

I follow on Google reader. I have 4 kids 12-20yr and my cleaning tip is to teach kids as young as possible to clean up after themselves. =)

I know I can't enter, as I'm not in the States, but I have a very simple tip. I hate all the scented and chemical laden products out there (I'm really surprised you use them, with your lung issues), and I clean just about everything with a microfiber cloth and water. Sometimes I use a bit of cheap amonia, or cheap body wash for greasy mess. Vinegar gets rid of soap scum in the shower. I just don't want to pay for scents and chemicals just for the sake of "feeling" like my house is cleaner.
(But I do keep a Magic Eraser around, LOL).

Is your sister available to help over at my house? hee hee I would say one thing that really helps is every fall I take down every window treatment and either send to the dry cleaners or for the ones I made I wash, dry and iron. There is something about fresh clean window treatments that brighten up the room but also it seems to smell cleaner too:)

I'm a follower.
My best cleaning tip would be to clean one room every day. THat's what I do and I don't feel overwhelmed of having to clean the entire house on one day.

my best cleaning tip... is close the door ;-) it doesn't work for long though.

What a fun giveaway! My best cleaning tip....stay caught up on a daily basis so it's not so overwhelming! We have six kids so sometimes that is impossible but we try!
Thanks!

Have a garage sale once or twice a year and get rid of junk that accumulates. That way you don't have to clean around it:)

Hi! I follow your blog too. I'd have to say my best cleaning tip is to keep up with clutter. Put things away daily and don't let them pile up. I used to be better at this when I had 3 kids at home. I love a clean and organized home, but I have gotten more relaxed over the last few years. Thanks for the chance to win!

Already a follower, and this cleaning pack would be lovely. In the middle of moving so must clean as I go, and then clean as I arrive!
Thanks for the thought.

I love your blog! I follow with Google Reader. I also try to do one room a day, because I work full time. This weekend, though, I need to do a really thorough, deep clean of the whole house, and hope I can tackle some of the windows, too!

My cleaning tip is keep supplies on every floor of your house. Trudging up & down the stairs keeps me from quickly cleaning a dirty mirror or dusting a surface but if the rags are nearby, I seem to do better. Sometimes. :) Thanks for the giveaway!

mine is to delegate jobs to everyone in the house. For years I tried to do it all myself. My husband never puts the dishes etc in the right cupboards but at least he is emptying the dishwasher. I am letting some things not bother me if they arent done perfect
