Yesterday North Carolina saw widespread devastation as tornadoes barrelled across the state. We heeded warnings and huddled in the safest place in the house. The wind blew and rain fell hard, and when it was over we were able to go outside and splash in the puddles. Not so for many others. Areas to the north, east, south and west of us saw heartbreaking damage from the storms. My heart breaks for my fellow North Carolinians this morning. Life was lost and homes destroyed.
For the safety of my family and the roof over my head, I am immensely grateful this morning.
I am also thankful you and your family are safe. Those storms are so, so, so scary. The rain is way more intense in the south, and so are the storms, in my opinion.
Hope you have a great weekend and you all can help each other clean up.
xoxo

The power of nature to destroy really can make one feel very thankful for what we usually take for granted. Glad you guys are okay.

I live in Lillington and thankfully we were spared (the Lowe's that is less than 30 minutes away in Sanford was completely leveled)! My heart goes out to those affected in Fayetteville (many homes and businesses were completely demolished) and to everyone else who was affected! I'm still in disbelief of all the devastation this storm caused, which was much more than some hurricanes that have hit us!

Certainly makes you stop and take stock. Prayers and hugs for all those in need.

Tiffany,
Im so glad you were spared. It is so scary to know how close it came, isnt it? We are less than 30 minutes from some of the biggest hit areas. We live between Fayetteville and Clinton. Clinton hasnt had much coverage on the news, but they were very hard hit. And Beaverdam, a small community about five miles away took a big hit. We didnt even have limbs down. Our power was only out for a few hours.
My daughter was in Raleigh, at the convention center when it hit. She said everyone there went into the basement, so she was very safe.
My son is a Marine and lives near Jacksonville and there was damage in his community as well. That shows how wide spread the path of these storms was.
It is always nice to hear from local friends! I hope you get a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather we are having today!!

Yes it does, Bridgette. When disaster strikes so close to home there is that mixture of relief and sadness.

Glad to hear all was well your way. We are also in NC, and the worst weather headed north or east of us.. we had sideways rain and lots of wind, but remained safe. The pictures and stories we have heard this week have really been heartbreaking.

Everyone must be prepared for such incidents to happen… Dealing with nature’s ways is one hard thing to do, especially when it comes to disasters like this. I’m glad you were able to survive… I remembered hearing about this news before and I felt so sad, too. That photo makes me feel so emotional right now… It’s heartbreaking but it makes me be more hopeful.
