Creating lovely centerpieces is not part of my skill set. I'm just not good at it. I try, really I do, but usually my table is quite boring.
Last week I saw this lovely table. She got her inspiration from Pottery Barn and created it for much, much less.
My initial plan was to pretty much shamelessly copy her. I already had some white bunnies and a white pitcher, all I needed were the flowers and paper mache eggs. I found the flowers at Hobby Lobby, no luck with the eggs. Dang it! I remembered a blog post about painting plastic eggs, so I picked up a pack and painted my own.
I sprayed primer on first.
Then a couple coats of craft paint. I used an off white for the base coat adding a little blue and green to some for some variation.
Then I speckled them using watered down paint on a tooth brush.
They looked pretty good, but the seam where the egg comes apart was more noticeable than I wanted. I decided not to hang them, instead I placed them in a little moss nest.
Instead of the white pitcher, I used my granny's old watering can.
I guess it's a knock off of a knock off.
Thanks for the inspiration Roeshel and Pottery Barn.
What if you used wooden eggs ( like in the unfinished wood isle)? Do you think they would look as good? No seam.

Hi Michelle!
I think the wooden eggs would be a better option for painting. When I bought the plastic eggs, my plan was to dangle them from the branches, so I was after light weight.

Wow they look so good, when I saw your plastic eggs I couldn't imagine how they could look so real. I feel a copy of a copy coming on. you have inspired me.

Hi Stacey. Just a little tip for the egg painting. Dont skip the primer. I missed spraying three eggs, so I figured Id just paint them anyway. It would not stick. Id get a coat on and everywhere I touched them for subsequent coats, it took the paint right down to the plastic.
The others were just dusted lightly with white spray primer and I had no problem with paint coming off.
Happy painting!!

I like putting them in the nest better. I have a Robins nest from last year I saved. Would look sweet with some little eggs. Its funny you mentioned Pottery Barn's Easter decor. I have some ceramic bunnies to paint in my ceramics class. I was thinking some white glaze would be perfect (totally thinking of the latest issue of Pottery Barn catalog I just received! ) as opposed to natural colors I have done in the past. White stoneware bunnies. Love them! Guess we're all on the same page these days.

Beautiful and fun! I think you've just inspired me to spruce up my table for spring. Great ideas! Oh, and I think copying is fine. It's a compliment to those who inspire us and if I didn't copy, I'd never have anything so pretty.
