Have you seen the EAT sign in Courteney Cox's kitchen on Cougar Town?
I've seen many great versions and wanted to try my own. At first my plan was a mod podge treatment, with either fabric or pretty paper. Here's a great tutorial I found using mod-podge and paper.
After I saw this, I knew I wanted a metal look instead.
Click that link to see how she made that great light. That table? A lamp and an old coffee table. Genius!
Then I saw this amazing kitchen,
That's the name of the blog and what I said when I saw her kitchen!
Subway tile to the ceiling folks! Love. It. I think her letters are the real thing. Mine are paper mache, so I had to go about making them look like zinc.
Here's a great tutorial on recreating Anthroploogie's (very pricey) Zinc letters.
That is pretty much exactly what I did and came up with this
Anthropologie's comparable sized letters are $18.00 a piece. Mine were $2.47 a piece at Hobby Lobby + a little paint I already had.
I really want these! They are so cool! I am so excited that I can make them myself!

Love you Zinc finish and love the E A T ! Going to show my daughter I think they would look so neat in her bay window nook where her kitchen table is.

I love your version - very clever. The "cougar kitchen" ones have given me an idea, though. Mosaic (my passion). I think they'd look great, too.

Love it .. thank you so much for sharing. I think I might try to make one too :-) Off the subject question -- I love your window treatment. Where did you get the plantation shutters and your curtains? I hope you did not sew it yourself because I don't know how to sew, hah! :-) Have a great day!

Grace, no sewing involved in the curtains. IKEA!
The plantation shutters were probably my best bargain score ever. I found them on craigslist. The listing was for 3- and in the exact size I needed for my windows. I got them for 25 dollars a piece. Id love to have them all over the house, but Ill never get that lucky again Im afraid.

It is super easy Lisa! I think the key is layers. Just keep brushing on and wiping off the silver paint.
Send me a picture if you make them.

Thank Allison! Your daughters wall looks wonderful! I would have ended up putting dozens of holes in the wall to get it right. Very smart idea to try it out in paper first.

I do like your EAT sign, but clicked on your link because of those fabulous curtain panels. What a great choice they are! Did you make them or buy them?

Thank you Daryl, they are from IKEA. I think the name is Stockholm Blad in green. They also have them in a more neutral tones and a blue one I think. They come really long so you can hem them to whatever length you need. They include fusible hem tape in the package if you dont want to sew. I do sew, but I used the hem tape anyway and it worked fine. Cant tell the difference.
Have a wonderful day!

Love your letters! Excellent job! But what really struck me are the curtains! I have been swooning over them on the IKEA website and after seeing them in your room I HAVE to convince my hubby that they're worth the price. I seriously must have them!!
