When Alyssa was pregnant and learned the baby would be a girl, I had so many plans for all the pretty things I would make her. I made her first quilt and her crib bedding and covers for 2 bassinets (had to have one for my house).
I surprised myself by crocheting a sweet little hat for her to wear home from the hospital. There were also two itty bitty dresses that were so itty bitty, the were too small for her nearly 8 pound newborn self. In the two and a half years since her birth, I've failed to make all the frilly dresses I'd envisioned. I watch her while mommy works, so we spend our days playing, leaving very little time for sewing. Playing is more fun and more important, but after seeing this cutie, I decided I must get back in the sewing room. I may have overdone the pink. Can you over-do it when it comes to little girls and pink?
I didn't use a pattern, just an easy little elastic waist skirt in super cute fabric I'd been saving for something special. Yea, I'd say she meets that requirement. I believe the fabric is older than the girl.
The flowers are just circles of chiffon fabric, edges curled by holding over a candle.
She loved it and has already placed her next order.
What a darling skirt! Love the bikes print on it too! I know what ya mean about not having sewing time but spending time with our grandbabies and especially being blessed to keep them while their Mommies and Daddies are at work is such a blessing!!! I had grand ideas of all the sewing I'd be doing for mine...oh well....as the saying goes..."Rocking my baby/babies as Babies don't keep!" Believe that was about dusting or something to do with cleaning the house but it applies to sewing too!

Sigh - I hope my grandbabies include a pink one. Because I so missed out on all that girl stuff with my own offspring! She looks so cute in her finery.

I hope one day youll have a grandbaby of the pink variety so you can get your fill of ruffles and bows! I had one of each, a very girly girl and a rowdy little boy. She didnt like getting dirty and he seemed to be allergic to anything clean. Bayleigh is a mix of both. She is as active as any boy Ive ever known and loves to be outside, but shes not fond of getting dirt on her hands and she loves pink! We love her enough for two, but are so glad she wasnt twins.

Very cute outfit for her! Could you tell me how you gathered the chiffon for those flowers? I'd love to make a few for my little girl's hair...they're adorable! I enjoy reading your blog....made those linen-like pillows you gave a tutorial for...at Xmas for my kids' teachers.
Thanks,
allison....in NC :)

what a sweet outfit!
I second Ali's comment... with three boys in the house there's no place for pink here... maybe one day!

Hello Allison,
I didnt gather them at all. Just cut several circles, they dont have to be perfect. I think I cut about four the largest size. Roughly three inches across?? Two more that were slightly smaller and two that were just a little smaller than that. No science. Anyway, after the circles are cut, individually hold them over a candle. Dont let the fabric touch the flame, just close enough that the heat curls the edge. Practice with a few first to get the hang of how far you need to hold the fabric from the flame. Ive seen some tutorials that actually singe the edge of the fabric by holding it to the flame. I didnt want that look for this flower so I just let it get close enough to curl. Once all the layers are curled, layer them together and secure with a few stitches through the center. I glued a small piece of felt to the back so you can then glue it to a hair clip or pin or headband- whatever you choose.
Oh, I forgot about the pearls. I stitched three pearl beads in the center of each. Mine were from a broken necklace. You can use any embellishment for the center you have on hand, a button, beads, little charms....
For the fabric, any lightweight synthetic fabric works. Silky, satiny type fabric.
Let me know when you make yours, Id love to see a picture.
Have a wonderful Sunday.

I haven't been here in a LONG TIME and amazed at how big she's gotten. She is absolutely PRECIOUS. And the more pink, the better for girls. :)
