I'm thinking of moving my blog from Typepad to Blogger. Anyone have any helpful insight as to how difficult this will be to do?
I made biscuits for breakfast- ok, so it was more like brunch. Anyway, as I was making those biscuits, Bayleigh was helping, and it occurred to me this seemingly small event is anything but small. We are making memories. The things we do, these everyday little things are settling into her little heart and mind and will be sweet memories one day when she's old and I'm gone.
I painted the front door, and I don't think I like it. It looks OK from outside, but if the door is open, it looks awful from inside my living room. It reminds me of the teal that was all the rage in the 90s. You know, the shade that was always paired with peach. Blech!
Not bad from this view, right?
Check out this one.
1995 called and wants its teal door with brass knob back.
The interior side hasn't been painted, it's still stained. I plan to paint it, but NOT be this color.
I love blogger.
Bayleigh has grown so much. She's such a cutie.

I moved in the other direction. Blogger is great (for everything but replying to comments).

Bayleigh is getting so big and even more beautiful, if that is possible! I don't know if I ever told you this, but I adore your house! One day when I actually have some free time (ha) I am going to redo my house just like yours LOL Seriously though, your most recent renovation looks beautiful, you have such awesome taste : D

My goodness, Bayleigh is getting so big, and looking just like her mama!!
I've only gone the opposite direction, but the migration from typepad to blogger should be a simple one...I'm pretty sure there are steps on both to tell you how to do it.

you made me laugh with your "1995 called"..haha

The door isn't bad! But, boy, do I know how you feel... picking paint colors is sooo difficult. And no matter what, it never-ever looks like you imagined it would while you were standing in front of all those paint chips. I chose a new paint color myself over the weekend - Faded Ink (by Martha) - and I'm seriously hoping it goes on the wall as nicely in real life as it does in my imagination. We shall see at some point this week... I just have to work up the courage!

Maybe you just need new door hardware? I think the door looks great, even inside!
Posted by: adnohr | September 08, 2010 at 11:52 AM
I agree, I definitely need new hardware. Im going to hold off on changing the color until I try that. I have painted other knobs in the house, and the interior knobs have held up well, the one we use most often, has not held up well. Otherwise Id just paint it. Door hardware is so pricey! Ive found a couple on Ebay, but its going to have to wait a while.

Oh my those paint chips can sometimes lie. Ive had school-bus yellow walls from what I thought was a soft buttery yellow chip. I have two bluish rooms that I would have swore were true gray. I dont mind the bluish gray, the school bus yellow had to be repainted!
I hope yours turns out as you dreamed. Martha colors are usually really nice.

I wasnt exaggerating either, we built this house in 1995 : ) Now that I think about it like that, I think probably 1988-89 was the year of teal and peach. I had all burgundy and hunter green back in 1995. Before that my whole house was Williamsburg blue and mauve. Ah, the memories!

When did you switch from blogger to typepad? When I first started blogging, typepad seemed the way to go. These days, it seems blogger has better features, and for free. Im just worried about the whole exporting thing. From what Ive read, the text will export, but not images. I have way too many to move manually.
Bayleigh is getting big. She looks a lot like her mom, but she really looks like her dad and her paternal grandma.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Thank you so much Tonya! I hope you are doing well and can find some free moments here and there.
How is that new sweetie-pie?

Here's the question though: how often is your door really open to the point that it can drive you bananas?
Posted by: margot | September 08, 2010 at 01:21 PM
Autum,
I'm so glad you see your time with Bayleigh as important and memory making. What a blessing to you, your daughter and grad daughter.
I treasure those times I had with my grandmother. She taught me and my first cousin, her other grand daughter, how to sew and we are still sewing!
I like the door color, but it's whatever you and Mitch like, of course ;-)
Peace.

Not all that often : )

Hello doll - I just switched back to Blogger from Typepad (after starting with Blogger 6 or 7 years ago, and then moving to Typepad!). If you go into the help topics on Blogger, and do a search, there is a way to import your posts, but I'm not sure about the images/comments. I tried, had a hard time and gave up. I also decided I wanted a fresh start anyway, so I started new at blogger again.
BTW, Blogger has changed A LOT in the last few years and the interface and ability to customize the layout is quite nice. Good luck! XO

Autumn...okay...I think I love your door. You know I've gone beachy, shabby cottagey in my house and my red door feels a little 'off'. I've been processing lots of different colors for the front door (I have a little white house too!).
Can you tell me what color and kind of paint you used!?!?!?
(my hardware is brass all over the darn house...sigh. Let's figure out an easy way to change the look without having to spend hundreds of bucks buying new...hummmm, paint maybe!?)
Love your photos...xoxo

Hi Robin,
I know, weve been on the same wavelength it seems. The paint color is Geyser by Martha Stewart mixed in your favorite paint , Behr Premium in a satin finish.
I have painted some of the knobs in my house. Gosh, there are so many. I have LOTS of doors. The interior knobs have done well. The door that is used most frequently, the entry from the garage into the kitchen, well first of all I almost never got it back on and apparently didnt get something right. The paint hasnt held up as well. So my verdict, interior doors do fine with spray paint, and maybe even exterior doors that dont get frequent everyday use. My only fear with painting this one is the fact that I had so much trouble getting the other exterior door back in place correctly. There are lots of little parts in there that have to fit together just so. Ive been considering masking it off really well, holding a box over it and spraying it in place.

Hi Carrie,
I was worried about being able to export the images. From what Ive read, the text will export but not images.
Ive noticed how nice the blogger blogs look and every time I try to find a tutorial on blog customization, it seems to be written for blogger. Typepad seemed to be the better of the two when I started as far as allowing for customization, but at some point in those four years, blogger has improved and typepad had stayed pretty much the same. Also the price thing. I dont make money from my blog, I really think if I can get a nice looking, easy to use blog for free, it makes more sense. I just really hate to lose four years worth of blogging.
Are you enjoying your change?

My daughter who is 28 still talks about making biscuits with my grandmother. She used to let her put eyes and noses on the biscuits. You are so right, this will be a treasured memory. Jackie

I am, thanks! I'm so much happier working for someone else than I was working for myself! (And since I'll be closing my biz at the end of the year, it made no sense to me to pay for a blog anymore.) You can also check the free blogs at wordpress.com, but I actually found their interface more confusing.

Ok, somehow whilst redoing my links and blogroll I had missed your link, so I'm rectifying the situation by commenting on all the posts I missed in this one :)
First of all, I am in love with ALL your painting projects! And, so weird, but I've been painting lots of pieces by hand with a brush and foam roller too. I don't know why, but I kinda prefer it. I get to 'bond' more with the piece, and it becomes more 'mine' or something. I also like the hand-painted finish on most furniture. I still like spray paint for pieces with nooks and crannies, or for a quick re-do, but I think I'm gonna enjoy hand-painting over the winter. :)
Ok, tell me about paste wax. I'm frustrated with polycrylic. Don't do much with polyurthane 'cause it yellows. Is the wax a good alternative?
And yes, making biscuits will be a VERY happy memory for your Bailey :)

Hi Cindy!
Ive been enjoying the painting process too. Crazy, huh? It gives me some much needed time for thinking, praying, planning. It has been very therapeutic.
I dont remember where I read about using wax, it was on a blog I think, about painting and distressing furniture. Anyway, several years ago, when I painted my kitchen table white, I wanted to protect it, but not have it look like it had a layer of plastic on it, like poly can do sometimes. So after finding the post about using wax, I tried it and loved it. I recently replaced that table and have moved it out to the garage. Being a tactile person, every time I walk past it, I rub my hand across the surface. It just feels good, smooth- not at all like a bumpy painted surface. See over time the waxed surface has only gotten smoother. Thats what made me decide to do the same for the coffee table. I wanted it to have some protection so that crayons would wipe off easily and spills not be scary and since the table has held up so well, I knew it was the perfect treatment. It comes in a can, like car wax and I applied it like car wax. Wax on- wax off. You do get a slight sheen, but not a glassy, plasticy finish. You can apply more than one coat and the more you buff, the more sheen you will probably achieve. You can find it in the stain isle at Lowes or Home Depot.

You are storing up little memories!
I just exported my fat blog to my real blog and everything exported over. However, that was moving from blogger to blogger.
I have been with blogger from the start and have always loved it.
And I like the front door.

Thank you Mindy.
I think exporting the text is no problem. Its the images that will be a problem. Ill have to do more investigating before I do anything.
