I want to paint my front door, but I'm stuck. I have no hesitation when it comes to painting, rearranging, moving, repainting, covering, you name it... inside the house. The front door? Can't seem to do it. Can't decide on a color. I've scoured the internet for images of painted front doors and have saved many. Here are just a few.
I don't have sources for these- I just saved them in my idea file. If you recognize any, let me know and I'll give proper credit.
I guess you can see, I'm leaning towards blue. There are so may blues though.
Here are a few shots of my the exterior of my house from the front. White with black shutters. The house is more than 100 feet back from the road making the black front door look like a black hole.
Any suggestions? I want it to pop, but not be shockingly bright. If you have a white house with a great blue door, send me a picture. If you know the paint code/color even better.
I like the idea of a colorful front door. Because your house is white, I would look for a saturated blue that wouldn't disappear next to the siding and dark shutters. (I really like the blue in the second photo.)

I agree Tricia. I just have to find that perfect saturated color. Ive seen some that in theory would be great, but just dont seem to work. I love that second photo too. Love it!

I really like the first one, a colour like that popped into my head before I even looked at the photos x
ps - so glad you are feeling better xx

This is easy and it will look so great! Match the blue in your pots that are at either side of your front door. Voila - coordination!

I love the blue in the second picture! Tiffany blue is a classic choice, but could come off a little minty if the color isn't just right. Myself, I'm partial to red front doors, but of course, that's been done to death!
Have fun with your new project and I'm so glad to find you feeling better!

I think it would be hard to make it pop since you have the screen door in front. I noticed the first picture had one too. Have you seen any doors where they have done something with the screen?
Posted by: lisa | August 06, 2010 at 01:58 PM
Youre right Lisa, except it isnt a screen door, its glass. Ive thought of removing it, to see how it would look with out it.

Thats exactly what has me frozen. Tiffany blue could be too minty or sweet. Blue like the flower pots could be too electric I think thats why I just want to find the color I like already painted on a door and get the color code. I know all too well how deceiving those little paint chips can be. Im not trusting one of those.

Color is what makes me light up! I like the teal looking color and the light blue. However, I think a beautiful bright "RED" would look so good too! Have fun!!!

Autum,
I know you're set on a blue color, but I would love to see your front door in red.
There is a Lowe's color, "Cut Ruby", it is a gorgeous, deep red that would make your front door stand out.
Just my humble opinion ;-)
Peace,

The 2nd & 4th blues are pretty, but I also love RED for a front door. But you said not bright, so there ... forget I said it.

Pick a color YOU love and will make YOU smile. All the pics you collected are lovely! I am partial to red but that is me, not you! Your home is lovely!
Our last house was white with black shutters and a red door. Moved to this one and it is brick so now have a black door. I like it but don't LOVE it like I did the red.
I have tiptoed in and out of your blog from time to time. So glad you are better and feeling like painting your door!!! I so appreciated your sharing. Nothing beats the power of prayer or the love of our Father!

This one is kind of the same style as your house.

Also, I say leave the front glass door. It adds to the charm and you can leave the front door open to let sunlight in on pretty days.

I have a brick home, but recently painted by front door a deep cobalt blue and I love it! Do a google image search for "blue door" and look at some of those. In the Mediterranean area they love deep blues. Look at this site, http://www.danheller.com/images/Europe/Greece/Naxos/DoorsWins/Slideshow/img1.html

Oh! I love them all. This isnt making my decision any easier ; )

Oh, your house, your house! I am currently in love with Farrow and Ball's Arsenic (doesn't sound too welcoming, but I love it anyway).
You have my sympathies - I am trying to choose a new colour for our downstairs loo and it's hellish.

Your house is so pretty! I love your yard, girl! It's gorgeous. I was going to say a RED door...can see it with the flag flying! I am a fraidy cat when it comes to my front doors, too...it's a big problem cuz I have three and storm doors are a necessity in MI with all the snow...so only HALF the door shows anyways! I can't wait to see what Creative Little Daisy does with the doors!
XOXO

I thought the second pictured blue-ish looked you-ish!

I have an ideas folder too..glad to know I'm not the only one! :o)
I remember reading somewhere that the best colour to paint your front door is your favourite colour. I'd really like to paint my front door, (I think I'd go for red) but I haven't convinced the hubby! ...yet... :o)

Autum, I have been gone from blog world for a while, but I clicked on a link I'd saved from your site in 2006 so thought I would drop in and say hello! I really like the banner of your blog. Love the colors. I'd say you should go with a blue for your door. It does seem to be a recurring theme here on your site. I personally am in love with the robin's egg blue/red combo right now. As for the pictures you shared, OMG! I love the scrollwork on the the third one down the list! SOOOO gorgeous.

Thank you LeeAnn!
I like the first on a lot, but I think it may be too muted to show up. I may do the interior side that color.

I love red front doors, but I don't like red for my own decor. I've tried it, because it looks so nice when other people decorate with red. I hated it. I'm a blue girl.

you have a lovely house and with black shutters...if you want to do I would do more of a historic blue. It's not a navy it's more rich. check out the fairmont penthouse mosaic blue. Love it for your door. they also have lighter colors.

Hope you are feeling better these days.
Hugs to you,

I know you're leaning toward blue, but I wanted to suggest a deep red. It's doesn't need to be fire engine red or anything bright like that. But a red door would pop and look great on your house!
Or what about a bluish grey? I wouldn't be a huge stand out color but would catch the blue tones you're going for. And...it wouldn't be the dark hole you feel your black door is.
(please don't check ANY grammar here)

I know that you love blue but I actually love the black. The problem is the screen (glass) door. I'd paint that door black. That will pop much more. But, if you really want blue, I'd do a grey, colonial blue . . Of course, purple is nice too!
