I didn't tell you it was lost, did I? Well, it was. And now it's found, and I have my friend Kelli to thank... in a round-about way. A couple of months ago I was fidgeting with my wedding rings, I'm a fidgeter, and something didn't feel right. Only one of the two rings was on my finger and I had no idea when or where I lost the other one. It was a simple band with stones, like this one. I searched in pockets, in the bed, under the bed. Mitch checked the sink drains. No ring. I had given up on ever finding it and today it fell right at my feet.
I was getting some burlap out of my fabric closet and something fell from between the stacks of fabric onto the floor. It was my ring. I guess when I was stacking the fabric on the shelf my ring slid off my hand with out me realizing it.
What does Kelli have to do with this? I was getting out the burlap because she had seen this pretty wreath and thought I should make her one. I had to make myself one first. You know, for practice, to be sure I know what I'm doing when I make hers.
I'm not loving the brown bow, but it was the best I could do with what I had on hand. It'll be simple to change out if I find something I like better. This was easy to make -messy, burlap fibers everywhere, but easy. If you make one, don't wear black pants.
Kelli, I think I have it now, yours is next, and thanks for helping find my ring.
**On a completely unrelated note, I have a question about comments. When I receive a comment on a post, I get an email to my gmail account. It used to be I could hit reply and it would reply to the email address of the person commenting. Then typepad made some changes and now when I reply that way the response is published in the comments of the post. In order to reply directly to the commenter you click on their email address in the body of the email sent by typeapd. Am I totally confusing you? I'm getting to the question, I promise. When I hit reply and it becomes part of the comment, does the commenter also get the reply sent to their email? I don't mind the reply being posted in the comments, I kind of like that in most situations, but I personally don't go back and read comments on other blogs after I've commented. So, if the response to a comment or a question is only posted there, I will never see it. Although, it is helpful if a question gets answered in the comment section for others who may have had the same question. Am I making sense? I just want to be sure if I reply to a comment, the person actually gets the response, and doesn't have to come back to my comments to check to see if I've responded.
Soooo happy that you found your ring:) I have been seeing these burlap wreaths and loving them...I have lots and lots of burlap...think I might just make one! I thought I would let you know...I LOVE the BROWN RIBBON!!!!
Blessings,
Linda

Thank you Linda. Im really glad I found the ring too.
The brown ribbon is growing on me. Kelli and I had talked about getting some gingham ribbon, like the wreath in the tutorial. I think I would like the brown more if it were a little wider.

Use a water spray bottle and spray your burlap down before working with it. Helps cut down on the fibers!
I love how you have it hanging on the mirror!

Wow, thanks for the tip Kim. Ill definitely try that when I make Kellis wreath. Ill spray the burlap with water and wear pants that arent black : )

What a blessing that you found your ring! Regarding the comment question. The best thing to do is to click on the highlighted name of the person in your email and go directly to their blog and leave a comment or find their email on their blog and respond that way. Hope that helps!

Hi Autum,
First off so glad you found your ring. What a blessing to be able to find it in all places....your fabric pile. Yay to Kelly for asking you to make a wreath.
In the past when I have gotten responses from you they were in my email box. I have never seen them here in the comments like up above.

I've wondered the same thing about comments, Autum. Let me know when you find out, or just reply here and I'll let you know if I get an email :-)
Oh yeah, now I know what to do with that colored burlap I have in my stash!!

Wanna test it out? Why don't you reply to this comment and I'll let you know if I get an email.

LOVE that burlap wreath. I wanna make one, but I don't think it'll be happening too soon with so much already on my plate. And Hooray about your ring! Love when stuff like that happens :)
I believe I've always received your replies via my email....haven't checked if they show up here though.

Typically, half the fun of blogging, or reading blogs, is also reading the comments and continuing the conversation, otherwise, it's kind of like having a one-way conversation with yourself. I usually reply back to people in my comments. I reserve email responses to them if I want to say something privately. This is a pretty broad practice across blogland - commenting back in the comments. Also, people usually can subscribe to both the blog posts and blog comments - depending on how the blog owner has things set up and what template they are using.
Hope that helps.

I'm pretty sure they get an email and it shows up in the comments too...at least I'm hoping that's what happens since I've been responding to my comments like that. I have Typepad too - I've gotten emails from you in response to comments so I think it works...

Eh, I am not sure I really agree with Claire that part of the fun of blog reading is reading the comments. I very rarely read the comments other people have left and in fact, only did so just now to see if anyone had answered your question. I also never come back to see if my question has been answered in the comments. If I dont get an answer via email I assume I am not getting an answer. Heh.

P.S. I actually have no idea what the answer is to your question. LOL

What a cute wreath! I have been wanting to try something with burlap. This looks like a fun project.

Very nice wreath, nice for our coming Autumnal weather.
I don't like the new Typepad email replying to comments format, I much preferred the old one. I don't use my default email for my comments so I have to remember to cut and past the email addresses all the time!!!

I have a similar "boomer-ring" story. Mine was gone for about 3 weeks before it turned up, after I had been through the trash at almost every place I could think of visiting. Including the vet's office. Yuck!
About the comments, Wordpress is doing the same thing now, and I'm not crazy about it. Some of my replies are to close friends and I might not want to share everything I want to say with the whole of blogland.
Like the wreath, too. Wouldn't they be great for a Fall motif?

So glad you found your ring. I lost my wedding ring before we were married - was so worried but did find it before the wedding!! I arrived back home, the day we bought the ring, after midnight, and decided to try the ring on to check it fitted. I tried it on and then wondered how securely it stayed on my finger. Shook my hand violently and it flew off!! I didn't dare tell my fiance, but did have to tell him a few days later when he came to visit (we lived several hours apart at the time) and wondered why I had moved all the furniture out of the room I had been in!! Eventually found it at the bottom of a cupboard that had been closed at the time!

Hi Beki!
Let me know if you get this in your email : )
I bet colored burlap would look great for this wreath. I have some black, gray and a smoky blue...hmmmm...

Cindy, I know what you mean about having too much on the ol plate. The nice thing about this project is that its quick and stress free. A nice diversion from all the bigger things on my plate that Id rather just ignore.

Thanks Amber!
Posted by: Autum | January 19, 2010 at 05:25 PM
Thanks Ashlee, it was fun. Quick and easy too.
Posted by: Autum | January 19, 2010 at 05:34 PM
Thanks Cindy. I dont mind the new way if the response does get back to the person who left the comment. I like the interactive nature of responding within the comments, but I dont want anyone to have to come back and look for an answer when I can just shoot them an email directly.

Glad you found your ring too Sharly. The wreath does have a bit of a fall feel to it. Im thinking a brighter bow would be better for the spring weather Im so anticipating.
The answer about the comments seems to still be up in the air.

Oh wow Caroline. I wonder how it ended up in the cupboard. Glad you found it before the wedding and at least you learned not to go around waving your arms violently ; )
Posted by: Autum | January 19, 2010 at 05:45 PM
Hi Claire, I do agree that the interactive nature of replying within the comments is nice and would be ideal if the response not only shows up in the comments but goes to the email of the person leaving the comment.
I am only going by my own personal experience, but for the number of blogs I read (too many) I could never stay caught up on new posts if I also went back to check the comments of previously read posts for responses.
I make it a practice to respond to comments as much as possible and always have, I just wondered if it was possible to use the new feature typepad has in place, and also ensure that the response gets to the person without expecting them to check back here. From what Ive noticed so far today, folks must not be getting these responses via email though.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
