I love these lamps from Ballard Designs. I'm cheap and not about to pay $79 (plus shipping) for a lamp. So I spray painted a lamp I had in the closet and glued some sisal rope to a plain white shade. It's not hand braided natural sea grass like the Ballard lamp, just a $1.50 roll of sisal twine, but I'm happy none the less. And it didn't cost me $79 dollars, plus shipping to be happy.
I like that a LOT! I've glued twine to clay pots - I painted the pot with a matching paint color first - they're very pretty. But a lampshade - what a great idea! It looks like you put a thicker braid or something at the top or bottom - that gives it a nice finished look - very very nice - I need to try this!

I am all about having the look, but not paying the price. Love your project. Is that ric rac or braided twine on top and bottom.

You are both thrifty and stylish! Love the lampshade. :)

The trim at the top and bottom of the shade is something I found on
clearance at Joann, it's some sort of jute trim.

I like your version better than Ballard's. And the price is much better too!

Just wanted to say that you really have a gift for decorating, and for being inspired to create, and make your own, the things you see. I enjoy seeing your projects.

I totally love this! And totally love it more than Ballards. It's got that rustic charm I adore that I have littered throughout my own house. Twine, eh? Hmm... To think I use to have a barn full of hay and yeah.. TWINE. Sigh..

This is such a smart idea! I have a lampshade with a tiny rip in it but love the shape - this will be perfect so I don't have to buy a new shade, and add some hipness as well! Thanks!

I made one of these, inspired by you! Not quite as perfect looking, but I'll try again with another, I think.
Either way, I have a blog (as in... made one maybe a week ago, and putting all of my projects on one by one) and am in the process of showing it off; I will link to your page! I doubt too many will actually see my page, but I figure it's polite :)
Thanks for the great idea!
