Wool felt, that is. I'd never even heard of the stuff before blogs. When I thought of felt, it was that cheap stuff you buy in sheets for kids crafts and school projects. Beyond the name, there is no comparison. If you've never made anything using wool felt you must go now and get yourself some. Well, not right now, but soon. It's forgiving so if you're like me and your cutting skills are lacking, you can still come up with something pretty. It doesn't fray, so you don't have to worry about finishing the edges. Fun, fun stuff.
I enjoy making these needlebook/pincusion sets. It's like coloring with thread and fabric instead of crayons and paper. Adding the beads and buttons is like adding glitter.
These are part of a special order I've been working on. The pincushion was my second attempt. The first one didn't make the cut. Try as I may, the darn thing wouldn't sit straight and the stuffing caused it to loose it's shape. For this one I cut a circle from cardboard and placed in the bottom. I also added a strip of peltex behind the ribbon to keep it from getting out of shape from the stuffing. Much better. More felt creations can be seen here.
Beautiful, totally dreamy! I love wool felt too and you're inspiring me to do something with it. I've heard, though I've never done it, that you can wash your old wool sweaters, one's you definitely don't want anymore, in hot water and put them in the dryer and they turn into wool felt. Thanks for the inspiration.

Those are pretty. I never heard of wool felt before blogs either...and, I can't find it at the stores. I'd like to try my hand at it, too...especially when I saw the Martha Stewart episode with the needle felted animals.
I just saw your tutorial on bias tape & I never saw that before either. I recently bought a bias tape maker but haven't tried it yet. I'm a lefty, too and it is so hard to understand diagrams/directions made for the rightys.
And, I miss the Dancing with the Stars...I just got hooked on it this season, well, half season. They are amazing professional dancers - I tend to watch them more than the star. :)

what sweet little creations, i love felt, one of my favorite materials to work with as it's so versatile. i've got loads of it stashed at home but my favorite to use is stuff i've felted myself using old jumpers!
