It really has been too long since my last GF post. I've been busy with this or distracted by that or just plain not feeling all that grateful, something I'm not proud to admit considering how blessed I really am. The simple act of counting those blessings has a way of shifting perspective and making me look at things in a different light.
This week some of the things bringing a smile to my face
The tease of fall in the air. I felt it tonight, just a hint, but an oh so welcome hint.
Enjoying a meal of Mexican take-out on the deck by candle light with a canopy of stars overhead. Just me and my sweetie. Just me and my sweetie and four pups. Me, my sweetie, four pups and two cats. It was lovely.
The new tv season.
A really good sermon last Sunday about wishes. If you could have one wish what would it be? Only one wish. Solomon wished for wisdom. I've been thinking all week, what is my one wish for this life?
Reading all of your wonderful Granny suggestions. Alyssa and I have read them together and enjoyed each and every one. I have a feeling, like many of you said, it will be chosen for me. Whatever she or he calls me will be the sweetest name I've ever heard. Thank you for sharing your stories with me- with us.
Welcome back, Gratitude Fridays...
(and is that dinner from your good Mexican place? YUM!)

HI Autum! I just wanted to congratulate you and Alyssa! :)

Congratulations Gramma A and Alyssa! She's so lucky to have you, Autum. Man if I had it to do over again you can believe I would have had my baby younger than I did, then I could be a young grandmother, instead I'll probably be going through menopause when my kid is learning to drive gah!

That all sounds very lovely. The one wish concept might have me stumped for the rest of my days, even if I live to be 100. Of course, I'm awful when limited to choosing one of anything.
And I can't remember whether or not I commented on the last post, but congratulations!! I bet you'll have such a blast. A baby is always good news, and I look fwd to hearing what the little guy/gal ends up naming you. My son calls my mom Grandma, but it's more like "Brrrrandma" -- very dramatic trilling from this one. :)

What lovely blessings! I agree about the importance of honoring them. The one wish question is something that takes a considerable amount of thought but my immediate response is that everyone in my life know that I sincerely love them.

It takes a humble person to admit and try to turn around from not grateful to grateful:) Way to go. Mexican food and stars sounds great and romatic. You will so enjoy being a grandma ~~ all the fun and no responsibilities:)

Hi Autum! Congrats on your great news!!! Re: your post on my site, I used a skirt pattern from MY FAVORITE THINGS - it's the older pattern, not the new one that just came out - to start with and then tweeked it a lot b/c I didn't like how that one fit. The construction method is pretty good though! :) Kris

hey!
i didnt get to comment on the last post but i have been thinking about your grannie problem so here are my thoughts, my mother goes by mawmaw d. which i think sounds a bit like a rapper but my kids love it, my stepmonster goes by grammie which i think is my favorite cause it sounds so cute when they say it. this is funny, joan crawford goes by nanna new face....ha! i crack up at that everytime and i nearly lost it when she told regis and kelly!!

Well, I didn't read through all 106 comments for name suggestions, but Goldie Hawn joked(?) that she gets her grandson to call her Glam-ma...as only she would!!
Try it, maybe no one will notice or just assume it is a slip of the tongue!!
I am fairly new to your blog, and an happy to have found it...

Hi Autum! Just wanted to say Congratulations to you and your daughter! What a blessing and a blast! One of my daughters had my first grandchild and she decided to call me Nana because she didn't want me to be called Grandma. My grandson is 20 months now and I had the best weekend with him and hearing him call for me. We will have another grandbaby due about the same time yours will be due. This'll be fun!

The kid will come up with something. And then it is your frandchild so you will forgive him or her.. (And for revenge in advance you can think out all sort of sweet and cheesy nicknames when the kid is too young to talk back) My dad is called Patrick and a grandpa is OPa in Dutch so he now is called Opatrick My name being marieke i just realised I will be known as Omarieke and i sealed that faith for myself when my oldest was 6 months old..
I love Nana it sounds so sweet..
And CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!Is Allyssa doing allright?

Nana is lovely, it's what my son calls my mother in law and I got it from a coworker when her grandson came to work one day when I was expecting. Maybe Nana Daisy?

Congratulations! I like the ways kids distinguish between the grandparents more than the terms: I had a 'nanny in the forest', while my nephew calls my dad 'grampy with the blue door'. I'm trying to discourage the 'grandma afro' that my husband has taught my son to call his (caucasian) great-grandma, but it's been a family joke for years that she styles her hair like an afro...
