I get so excited for each coming season and the changes they bring. I especially love the anticipation of spring. I tire of winter after Christmas and am ready for temps in the 70s, green grass, spring blooms and flip flops. I think this feeling affected my purchases this weekend at Target. (does everyone love Target like I love Target?)
The dollar section was the first place to suck me in. I purchased three dishtowels for $1.00 each and turned them into aprons. Two for my nieces using this tutorial.
And one for my sister. I just winged this one.
I used fabric and trim from my stash so these three aprons cost me $3.00.
That wasn't my only springy purchase. My family is rough on kitchen rugs, door-mats specifically. It was past time for new ones and I was more than happy, I was giddy to find these for $3.99 each.
This picture isn't so great of the rug, but check out the peeping Maggie. I let that cat in or out about 25 times a day. No exaggeration. In and out, in and out.
I love these rugs, they are so bright and happy. The only problem with this type of rug is it has no backing and they can be very dangerous. I had some nonskid tape but not enough for all four rugs. I stretched it as far as I could and then got the hot glue gun out. No, I didn't glue them to the floor, I put a gob of hot glue on each corner and a few beads of it in the center and let it cool. The glue turns rubbery and keeps the rug from slipping. It doesn't hold as good as the rubber nonskid tape, but it keeps them in place and keeps me from going airborne.
Now for a very late gratitude list and it's going to be a short one. This has been one of those weeks. A week that involved some not so happy times, times I'd rather skip right over and not have to deal with. That not being possible I am grateful that I can see growth in myself. I feel better about my handling of the situation than I have in the past. Growth. It doesn't always come easy, and I guess it makes it that much more precious.
As the week came to an end things started to look up and it managed to be pretty good, all things considered. The high point of the week was finally getting some things worked out and some plans made. A very good blogging friend and I are finally going to meet. We've had lots of email correspondence so I feel as though I've known her for years. I am so excited to actually meet her and talk to her in person. LLA is going to load up her station wagon and head north and I'm counting down the days.
- I'm grateful that trying times make us appreciate the easy days that much more
- I'm grateful for the anticipation of spring
- I'm grateful for unexpected friendships
