Taylor, my house guest arrived bright and early this morning. She's three years old and very smart and funny and talkative. Oh my is she talkative. Alyssa thought it would be fun to take her shopping so I made her a shopping skirt and sent them on their way.
Then I got to work on a gift for a baby boy. I discovered something about myself, I like sewing for girls better than boys. I made a patchwork blanket that is backed in chenille, and a matching bib and burp cloth. I guess it's cute enough but I prefer the sweet girlie stuff.
I don't know how much sewing I'll get done tomorrow. I think spending the entire day with the energizer bunny left Alyssa shell-shocked. I doubt she'll be around tomorrow, so it will be me and Taylor. I'm sure we'll find lots of trouble to get into.
You just whipped her up a shopping skirt?! You're amazing.
That vintage-y train fabric? Eeeek! I needed that a few years ago for my wee train nut!

love the colour combo on the shopping skirt. It's just perfect for an afternoon of spending.

I do understand the "girl stuff is cuter than boy stuff" sentiment - I felt the same way after Schecky was born. Thrilled to have him, of course, but disappointed at how boring boy stuff was. I learned, however, that boy stuff is stealthy cute - it creeps up on you, and it does become every bit as fun as girly stuff. But it is an acquired taste, and it takes time to develop. And I've got to say, I am crazy for that choo choo fabric!
Love the tales of your houseguest, and love the shopping skirt. I've got to stay home and putter around my rats' nest of a home and finish a little bear today - want to whip me up something cute to wear so I'll have more fun doing it???? :)
(Actually, I'm kind of excited about the little bear - she's v. different than any I've done to date. 'Cause for some reason, I can't stop dinking around with the pattern....
She's a petite little thing - and she's thin! Which is weird b/c, as you know, I've been making them all as tubby as I possibly could.... It's just how she wanted to turn out. She still needs all her limbs, but I am kind of stupidly excited to see how the final product will look... Which is fun.)

I want to be a houseguest at your place! ;-)
That is such a sweet little skirt and you are so nice. Hope you all have fun together!

You're right, girl sewing is so much more fun! I love that little skirt. Lily has been asking for one for ages, you'd think her mama could pull that off. Wouldn't that skirt be super cute with a pair of red or hot pink cowboy boots?

My friend who just had her baby was SO disappointed when she learned she was having a boy, she actually called me crying! She was so looking forward to dressing up a little girl and doing all the neat little girl things with her. She's happy now that Kai is here and he is healthy. I do have to agree with you, it's just so hard to get into "boy" things. I searched far and wide till I finally found a pattern for a "boy" birth sampler that I liked.
I haven't had a chance to get together with my friend yet to give her the purse. I'll let you know what she thinks when we do!

I think that if more people made cute, cute, cute things for boys, everyone would find it less disappointing! It is more of a challenge, but it can be done!

Oh, what pattern did you use for the skirt? My little (just turned 4 this week) girl would love to have Mommy make one of those!

you should have seen my eyes bug out when you said alyssa thought it would be fun to take her shopping.
and it seems me that *everything* is more fun for girls -- softies, clothes, blankets. sigh.

Ummm....whipped it up? You're amazing. And that baby boy stuff is TOO CUTE. I love the retro train fabric, where'd you get it???
I also wanted to ask you if you had ever done a tutorial on the chenille- backed baby blanket? I would love to know your tricks for working with chenille, as it can be tricky when paired with other textures!
LOVE how you share what you make with us, you're an inspiration!

that skirt is great! I've trying skirts for the girls this fall, too. And I love this one, too! Good twirl-appeal.

I agree completely! Girls are so much more fun to sew for. I mean, just look at all the fabrics there are out there for girls! At my sewing shop all the boy-ish stuff is leaning against a pole. ONE POLE. I have 3 boys and I'm always looking for girls to sew stuff for.
That shopping skirt is SO cute. I want one! :o)
