Carmen if you are reading this and want to be surprised (wristlet swap), stop reading this....Is she gone?..... OK, maybe I should wait until my partner gets her wristlet, but I am such a dork and I can never wait to say "Look, look!! Hey! Look what I made!!" So Hey! Look what I made. This is the wristlet I referred to in the last post that I made so many silly mistakes with.
Why does it have an airplane on it you ask? Well, the theme is "It's a Wristlet World Swap." Your wristlet should somehow describe where you are from. I am from North Carolina. Hmmmm.... what describes NC? I thought of several things but wasn't sure how to pull it off. Kitty Hawk North Carolina is the site where Wilbur and Orville Wright were said to have completed the first manned airplane flight. Though Megan would probably dispute North Carolina's claim to fame, we do have it on our license plates. I have some fabric with airplanes on it that matched nicely the color of this fabric (that I just love), so I appliqued an airplane on and now it's a North Carolina wristlet + accessories. Since the airplane was kind of on the large side, the wristlet is also large. Mitch looked at it and said "That's pretty big for a wristlet, she'll think you're from Texas."
I bought this fabric to make another wristlet. Sue said she was partial to greens and purples. I found this Paula Kaufmann print at Hancock Fabrics and I love it!!
Are you wondering what those little things are in front of the wristlet? I'm glad you asked. Again with the dorkiness... I am so excited to have found this tutorial on craftster. It's for a lipstick/lipbalm cozy. Who doesn't need a lipbalm cozy? And snaps! Don't you just love snaps? Never done snaps before.
The other stuff is just a small card wallet and a travel tissue pouch. Such fun stuff to make! And if you will indulge me just one more dorky moment, look at this zipper pull.
I know to you well rounded crafty geniuses out there this is no big deal, but I've never done anything with beads. Why have I never done anything with beads before now? I feel a new obsession coming on.
OK, show and tell is over. Now for Gratitude Friday.
- First of all I am soooo grateful for Angela. She posted some wonderful thrift finds and I commented how green with envy she was making me. She offered to go back to the thrift store to get me the cups that were left. She had to hover next to some lady looking at them to get her to move along, then she scooped up 6 cups for me. I love Angela!!!
- I am grateful for having a child with a drivers license. I made a grocery list this morning, a long grocery list, and sent Alyssa and Casey on their way so I don't have to go out in this smothering heat. Thank you guys!!
- I am grateful for learning new things, like snaps and making zipper pulls, and the pleasure it brings me.
- I'm giddy with gratitude that I will be swapping a purse for some of these fancy wash cloths. I can't wait!!
We are going to the beach tomorrow and will be home Wednesday afternoon. Have a great weekend!
Oh, and if you're wondering how the puppy's doing, he lives a hard life I tell ya.
Can you tell how much he's grown?
Autum, that is an excellent collection of stuff you have there! Beautifully made, and lovely colors. Such fun.

Love everything! Technical (dorky) question for you - how do you sew the portion of the wristlet strap that wraps around the D ring? I think my sewing machine would go into convulsions if I tried to put something too thick through it...

Oh my gosh I LOVE that fabric ! Love it, love it, love it !
And that pup... too sweet. Is there anything cuter than a sleeping puppy?

You are amazing- the wristlets and accessories are beautiful! I'm scared of even looking at beads. I've heard of how addicting they can be and I really don't need another hobby. I mean, I haven't mastered zippers, or even fabric flowers yet - I really don't think I should be distracted right now, thank you very much - the bead zipper pull is so cool - it adds so much to the zipper. Okay, I'm not looking at it any more.
Nice quilting on the wristlet.

Ooh, now I feel the need to add wristlets, lipbalm cozies, and beads to my "to-do crafts" list! And the puppy is adorable. We're trying to adopt a (full-grown) dog as we speak, so cross your fingers!

Such a great wristlet! It is so much fun to see others post what they've made and received. I love the way you incorporated your state and made all the lovely little extras!
