What do cameras, flowers, and TV have in common?

Nothing. I'm just having another one of those lack of focus days, so I'll just babble about whatever comes to mind.

Today marked the official start of the spring/summer season at my house. I finally got my hands dirty in some potting soil to get some color going on around here.

I'm getting a later start than I usually do and this year I'm determined to use restraint. I'm so weak when I go to the garden center, so full of excitement. I want flowers everywhere, but by July I'll be sick to death of watering and watering and watering to keep things alive in the North Carolina heat. This year it's just going to be a few pots on the back porch. That's it. I mean it. Really. Besides the flowers, I planted a few herbs. Some basil, cilantro and lemon thyme.

Backporch

I love the idea of fresh herbs growing right outside the kitchen. The image of me in an apron, stepping out the back door to snip some basil for the delicious meal I'm cheerily preparing for my family is so nice. It's not very realistic, just ask my family, but it could happen. I planted the basil. It could happen.

How do my pictures look today? (my attempt at a smooth transition into the next topic)

Hennchick

I took them with my new camera. It just arrived today but we are already good friends. I promise to be a better guardian to this new guy than I was to it's predecessor. The poor thing, after being dropped one too many times, it screamed enough! Last week the door that holds the batteries in flew open, spewing batteries all over the floor and would not close again. Apparently a piece of plastic that holds it in place had broken loose. Before this, the hole where the tripod screws in place stripped out. Pictures were not looking so good. It was limping around on it's last leg for a while. When it got to the point that tape was required to hold it together I knew it was time.

Abby_sunin

Abby sunning her belly today or playing dead. ?? Not sure which. Crazy cat.

OK that covers the flowers and cameras, what else was I going to talk about? Oh yea, TV. Did you watch LOST last night? Oh, it was sooooo good.  It was sooooo bad too. Bad in a good way. Don't read if you haven't watched it yet. Anthony Cooper, the actor playing Locke's dad is either a really bad man or a really good actor. I don't like to watch violence on TV, but I've got to tell you, I couldn't wait for Sawyer to strangle the life out of that evil man. When he said how 'bout that, my name's Sawyer too.... Loved it!

What do you think, Juliet with the others or not? And what's up with Jack? I'm already dreading the end of the season. It's sad to like a TV show so much, isn't it? I really should get out more. But not tonight, Grey's is two hours. Wohoo!!

Thank you for all the anniversary love and the hair-do understanding. It was the 80s, the only excuse I have. Hey, everyone looked like that. What were we thinking?

A Blur

Blur

Cookie and Daisy's big weekend o' fun was a wonderful blur. We didn't even think of taking pictures until it was nearly over and most of them look like this. I suspect they are all so out of focus because our mouths were in constant motion. We talked and talked and talked and after all that talking, I could talk some more. LLA is every bit as delightful as I imagined her to be and then some. She's tall and beautiful and has a smile that lights up the room. Any worries I may have had about how our weekend would go fell away in the first five minutes. She was relieved that I didn't have a pit in the back yard to keep her in while fattening her up to make purses from her skin. I was relieved that Toby didn't hump her leg, not once. Funny the silly things that worry us, huh?

We had big plans for the crafting we would do, but in the end we just hung out like old friends. We laughed and ate and watched Thursday's episode of Grey's Anatomy. I was really sad when the time came for her to pack up her little station wagon and head south, but I know it wont be the last weekend o' fun for Daisy and Cookie.

Confessions and TV talk and a public proclamation

When I checked my email this morning there were several comments about my beautiful lush lawn. What? I had to go back and look at the picture I posted, because let me tell you, my lawn is neither lush nor beautiful. In fact we have been pulling our hair out, well maybe thats a bit strong, we have not been happy with the state of our lawn the past couple of years. I can only attribute the deceptively lush looking lawn to the camera angle and lighting. We are bombarded every day by deception. Glossy magazine covers of airbrushed to perfection models or perfectly styled but never lived in rooms. I couldn't be a part of that. Here's the ugly truth.

Uglygrass

*By the way this picture was taken yesterday just a few minutes before the "lush" picture. Goes to show you can't always believe even what you see. I in no way touched up the other picture. I was just sitting on the grass looking back toward the house as opposed to looking down at the lawn. What is really sad about this is at one time we did have a lush lawn and we have no idea why there are huge dead patches everywhere. Where the grass dies weeds quickly take its place making for one ugly lawn.

Now for the tv talk. Yay for the American Idol winner! If you haven't watched it yet don't read this. I really wanted Elliot or Chris to win but between the two finalist I am glad Taylor won.

Any Lost watchers reading? What did you think about last nights episode? I am not sure. I think I am going to have to watch it again. It seemed all over the place to me. I thought I heard a commercial for this episode that claimed it would answer many of our questions. Did it? So the plane really did crash and it was because of some electromagnetic something. What do you think the deal is with that last scene? I don't think that episode answered as many questions as it raised.

Maybe if I proclaim it here in writing it will happen. It is certainly worth a try. Here goes... I am going to get something accomplished today! Something I can post that is actually craft related. Now to get off my behind and away from the computer. Have a great day. I hope to see you later with some show and tell.
