I never said I was original...
It's still pretty early, but so far I feel nearly human, which let me tell you is so much better than I've felt the past four or so days. I have no doubt this turn around I made, seemingly overnight, is thanks to the whopping dose of prednisone I took yesterday (under the direction of my Dr.) So do I run with this energy while I've got it or ease back into things? Since I've been out of commission and have nothing but whining creative to share, I'm going to steal this theme from Beki. I love reading these things, maybe you do too. If not I won't feel bad if you move along...only because I'll have no way of knowing. If I did know, then yes I probably would feel bad, but that's just because I'm neurotic and hypersensitive that way. I'm not going to call it a 100 things list because I may not make it to 100 and I don't want to set myself up for failure so early in the day. So, here's a list of a number of random things about me you didn't know you wanted to know....
- I wake up at almost the same time every morning without an alarm clock
- Fall back really didn't give me an extra hour sleep, I woke up anyway
- I don't like to lay in bed long after I wake up, unless it's really cold and then I hate to get out from under the covers.
- If for some reason I wake in the middle of the night I always have panicky thoughts.
- The older I get the more I worry about things.
- I'm told I don't look my age, I look younger.
- I don't feel my age either, I feel older.
- I'm glad I don't look like I feel.
- Some days I feel 80.
- I have arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis. I used to think arthritis only affected old people.
- I once would have thought of myself as a people person, now I'm more of a wall flower.
- I don't know why.
- I need to get out more.
- My granny was outgoing and joyful and bubbly and maybe a little boisterous. I loved it about her and wish I could be that way. I'm not.
- Her sister is quiet and reserved and serious. Lots of people think she's mean because she doesn't have much to say. She's not. I'm more like her.
- I don't like attention.
- When people (that don't know me well) pay very close attention to me they notice my breathing is often labored and can probably hear me wheeze. I can see the look of concern on their face and know they are studying me wondering if I'm ok. I don't like the feeling that gives me.
- I'm really not so negative and whiny all the time, you wouldn't know it reading this list. I guess it's cheaper than therapy.
- Beki's list was more fun... but this isn't about Beki, it's about me.
- I want to be fun. Can you will your self to be fun?
- I could never go on a low carb diet.
- I love bread and potatoes.
- I eat very fast.
- Mitch eats very slow.
- We drive each other crazy. I think he needs to hurry up. He can't believe I'm finished already.
- I'm conflicted by my desire to have things clean and organized and my inability to keep them that way.
- I keep thinking as I get older I'll get better about being organized and on top of things but it doesn't seem to be happening.
- I could never go on fear factor. I gag watching it, let alone experiencing it. I could not eat bugs or worms for money.
- I don't like to look at worms. Most bugs don't bother me.
- I'm not afraid of spiders (still not going to eat one though)
- I am afraid of snakes. All snakes. I know some are good, but to me, they're all the same.
- I'm not one for trying new foods, especially anything strange or exotic.
- The strangest thing I'll eat is a banana sandwich w/ peanut butter and mayo, and that's because it isn't strange to me.
- Sometimes random words or names will pop in my head and stay there all day, like when you have a song stuck in your head. Out of the blue, a completely random word or name. Yesterday out of nowhere the name Mike Rutherford pops in my head. Why? Isn't he the guy from Genesis? I just googled it, he is. No idea where that came from or why. Mike Rutherford stuck in my head.... crazy.
- I'm not a list maker, mostly because I used to have a good memory. Not as much anymore. I need to make more lists.
- I am terrible about remembering birthdays.
- I fidget.
- Fidgety people get on my nerves.
- I do lots of things that get on my nerves when other people do them.
- Maybe that's why I don't get out much, so I don't get on peoples nerves or them on mine :)
- I don't sound like a very likable person do I? Hmmm.... that makes me sad. I don't want to be unlikable.
- Maybe I should stop making this list, it's bumming me out. I know I can think of some good qualities.
- I think I'm pretty open minded and try to see situations from more than one side.
- Empathetic, I think I'm an empathetic person.
- I don't like conflict.
- I don't like to see anyone hurting. I cry anytime someone else cries.
- I cry in church a lot.
- I only wear one particular brand and style of underwear. Have for years. Alyssa thinks that's strange. I say when you find what works, stick with it. It's always on my Christmas list.
- I'm wondering if any of these items were on the first list I did like this... if so sorry to be repetitious. (you don't have to go back and read the first one. 150 things is too much to have to know about anyone)
- I used to think I was smart. I was always told I was very smart, scored highly on aptitude tests. I think I peaked at some point in my 20's and it's been downhill since.
- I'm sure regular readers wonder about my aptitude. I know my grammar, spelling and punctuation leave lots to be desired.
- I often wonder do I need a comma or a period. Is this an incomplete sentence or a run-on? (Not that particular sentence.)
- I didn't make the most of my God given intelligence when it came to paying attention in English class. Now I wish I had.
- I read in spurts. I haven't had a spurt in a while. I should read more.
- I want to be a good parent.
- I was a good parent to my babies.
- I don't feel so good about my parenting of teens.
- I'll be glad when I can feel like they will be safe in this world.
- Like they have the skills they need to be functioning members of society and have happy lives.
- Sometimes I think they don't love themselves enough and I wonder if it is because I failed at teaching them how to. That makes me sad, because I love them very much and know how great they are.
- I love the satisfaction I get from making something with my hands. The process.
- I'm rarely completely satisfied with the end results. There's always something I wish I'd done better.
- I weigh less than 100 pounds.
- I've heard people say you can never be too rich or too thin. I'm surely not rich but I am too thin.
- My hair is the longest it's been in 15 or so years, almost to my shoulders...yay.
- No one thought I'd stick with letting it grow.
- I pierced my own ears, several times in high school.
- I almost never wear earrings now. They irritate my ears.
- I always wear a necklace. Not always the same necklace, I occasionally change it up.
- I always fidget with it.
- I just looked back at the first about me list I made and a couple of the items have changed. I don't watch very much TV these days. (on that list I said I watched too much TV)
- And I said my favorite color was pink, these days I seem drawn to blues. Aqua blue, cool icy blue, gray blue....
- I like people watching.
- That's one of my favorite things about sitting on the beach. I don't go to sleep. I watch the people. Fascinating.
- I don't often strike up conversation with strangers... say in the grocery store line. My husband does.
- I love to decorate for Christmas I have put the tree up before Thanksgiving, but I'm usually ready to take it down by Dec 26. I usually wait a little longer.
- I once took the Christmas tree down Christmas night. It was and dry and droopy and dropping needles everywhere. I had looked at it long enough.
- I think I am creative, I don't think I am artistically talented.
- My husband is good at
doinghelping with the kids school projects. I'm not. - I'm doubting I'm going to make it to 100. I twirl my hair (another part of my fidgety-ness)
- I can fold my thumb back to lay on my hand at a 90 degree angle.
- So can Alyssa, she thought everyone could. I don't know, maybe they can. Try it. Bend it at the knuckle back towards your hand so that it makes the shape of a 7. The knuckle should be pointing away from your hand. Can you do it?
- On the subject of weird body stuff, I can pop my shoulder in and out of joint. So can Alyssa.
- Are you still with me? I never paint my nails. Or file them. Or do anything other than washing them.
- I'm very low maintenance in that sort of way.
- I'm most comfortable dressed very casually and feel like some sort of impostor if I dress up to go anywhere that doesn't call for dressed up attire. You know, like wearing a dress and heels to the mall just because it makes you feel pretty. I feel ridiculous.
- Alyssa loves to dress up and wear make up, nail polish, jewelry. I always wonder where she got that from.
- I have trouble with what is appropriate for someone my age to wear. I don't want to dress like a teen, but I'm not going to wear Mom Jeans either.
- I usually wear jeans or sweat pants and a tee. My basic uniform.
- I believe there are "guy" jobs around the house that I do not do. I live with two males who are responsible for: taking out the trash, removing anything dead the cats drag up, killing snakes (sorry snake lovers, if they're hanging out around my house they gotta go) washing the car... I'm sure there's more, but these are the biggies.
- I can't think of any "girl" only jobs, hmmmm.... nope, can't think of a thing. They can cook and often do if they want to eat, they know how to run the washing machine, vacuum etc.. that's not saying they do these things, but they aren't automatically exempt.
- I prefer summer to winter but late spring and early fall are really my favorites.
- I coordinate my wrapping paper at Christmas. I decide on a color scheme and all the paper has to be matching. Not all the same, but coordinating.
- Nearly there... I am easily annoyed in traffic by other drivers.
- I don't like to drive.
- I'm not a good passenger either. Especially not with an unexperienced teenager.
- I drive a small car.
- I had a minivan for about a month once. I went by my self to the car dealership and traded it in for a car. My husband still isn't over that. 11 years later. (I guess buying cars is another "guy" job)
- I think I have a good eye for color.
- I was once abducted by aliens. Not really but I'm running out of stuff here. One more thing, I know I can do it.....I prefer diet coke to regular.
I can't believe I made it to 100. For those of you still with me I don't know whether to apologize or say thank you. I'll do both. Thank you for reading my list. I'm sorry to have kept you so long. Now go have a snack or something, you're blood sugar is probably getting kinda low by now.

Have you made a decision about Toby's eye surgery?

I so enjoyed your honesty. I've never done a list like this - perhaps I'll join in on the shenanigans.

I read no.80 whilst twirling my hair!

twirling my hair, too!

I loved reading your list. I found that some items made me realize I feel the same way as you, even though I had not thought of it before now, so, you actually taught me about myself too. Thanks for sharing.

I do love reading these lists - and I particularly enjoyed yours!
So much food for thought (and even more eerily apt similarities between us!) (except for the weighing less than 100 pounds thing!)

AND (can't believe I forgot to say this...)
so glad you are feeling better!

Love that list! So often I think the 100 things lists are sort of narcissistic and self-indulgent, which is why I haven't published one (although I do have a draft on my computer). I have never been able to get mine to come out sounding right. But yours is funny and sweet!

I am still laughing about the "mom jeans"! What a hoot! I've never seen that spoof before...I must share...:)

Love it! So many things I can relate to, like #1-3 and #29-31. I'm not so sure about #19! And doesn't evernyone coordinate their Christmas wrapping paper(#93)?
Posted by: beki | November 02, 2006 at 02:05 PM
Good on ya. Glad you're feeling better.

Love the list! Found many things to relate to. But not the 100 lbs.

Super list and fun to read. You crack me up.
I with you on 22, 23, fast eating and coordinated christmas wrap...every year. ;-)
Glad you are feeling better too.

I'm so glad that you are feeling better hon. Do still try to take it easy on yourself for the next couple of days, okay?
I enjoyed your list. I definitely know what you mean about "peaking" in intelligence and thinking you would be more organized and on the ball as you got older. It hasn't happened for me either.

Glad you are feeling better, hope you continue to improve. I loved your list, shaking my head to many. I would include 28, 31, 52, 55, 61, 71(but on the computer lots), 76,77, 84 and 92. Coordinating paper, too. No, mom jeans here but laughing at the spoof on TV once. Oh, yes, stay away from the aliens and you must live in the South. It is Diet Pepsi where I come from!

Sometimes the drugs are really necessary, aren't they? I'm glad yours are working for you. And I say ease back into things - your body is still recovering. I hadn't seen the SNL Mom Jeans commercial. Very funny! I have been eyeing those sweats, though - they look SO comfy!

I am glad to see that you are feeling better! I love reading everyone’s lists. Makes me think that I am not as bazarro as I think I am. Thanks!

Hi Autum (with no "n" at the end!) I read BOTH lists and enjoyed them very much! In fact, I'm going to try a similar one and maybe even post it! So glad you are feeling better!

The Mom Jeans thing was the funniest thing I have seen in ages. Thank you so much for including that!

Great list! I loved Beki's too. I prefer Diet Coke and pink is one of my favorite colors too. Among other things on this list we have in common.
